JACLO® Announces California AB 1953 Lead-Free Certification

Cranford, New Jersey – JACLO — a premiere manufacturer of decorative plumbing and advanced shower solutions — has announced its compliance with California’s AB 1953 and Vermont’s S.152 low-lead regulations. To meet the terms of the AB 1953 and S.152 compliance, JACLO retooled their collection and will now offer a full range of plumbing fittings and fixtures compliant to the low-lead legislation. The addition of these products will expand JACLO’s current offering of products that are already zero-lead, such as supply-tubes and the Steam Valve Original Collection of stainless-steel faucets.

The California Assembly Bill 1953 (AB 1953), now a state law, requires no more than 0.2 percent lead by weight in solder and flux used in the installation or repair of the devices used in any public water system — or any residential or nonresidential facility that provides water for human consumption. AB 1953 also requires no more than a weighted average of 0.25 percent lead by weight when used with respect to the wetted surfaces of pipes and pipe fittings, plumbing fittings and fixtures. The AB 1953 bill was adopted by the state of Vermont with the recently passed S.152 bill, which JACLO will also comply with.

JACLO has streamlined the AB 1953 and S.152 compliance across all product categories, including modifying their lavatory faucet lines to develop new low-lead versions. Existing law prohibited the introduction of any pipe, plumbing-fitting, or fixture that was not low-lead into commerce; except for pipes used in manufacturing or industrial processing. The AB 1953 compliance program and Vermont’s S.152 legislation became effective January 1, 2010.
