2009 GOOD DESIGN® Awards Honor Two Industry-Leading Bath Companies

JACLO® and Laufen’s cutting-edge collections receive accolades for innovation, creativity, and aesthetics from one of the country’s most prestigious design organizations.

As revolutionary forces in bath design, it’s no surprise that industry-leaders JACLO® and Laufen received 2009 GOOD DESIGN Awards, for three unique and innovative product lines. Now in its 60th year, GOOD DESIGN was founded in 1950 by creative pioneers Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., Charles and Ray Eames, and Eero Saarinen, and continues to recognize the highest achievements of cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic design produced worldwide. Presented in association with the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, the GOOD DESIGN Awards honor quality design of the highest form, function, aesthetic, innovation, and environmental consciousness - making the awards one of the most prestigious and highly-coveted design accolades. JACLO and Laufen’s continued commitment to creativity and excellence, as well as their constant reimagining of bath design, led to the conferral of these remarkable honors on their respective collections.

JACLO Good Design Recipient
JACLO, a leading manufacturer of decorative plumbing products and advanced shower solutions since 1961, received GOOD DESIGN Awards for two innovative product lines: the Renovator and Aquavolo Duetto. The Renovator, JACLO’s reinvention of shower infrastructure, allows for the replacement of an old showerhead with a new and unique shower system. Using the shower’s existing valve and outlet, the Renovator operates via a built-in diverter fitting in which a handshower and/or showerhead can be attached. Also recognized by GOOD DESIGN for its innovation is JACLO’s stainless steel Aquavolo Duetto; a unique shower fixture that allows for the option of a waterfall shower and a rain shower. The horizontal position of the flat spout lets forth a refreshing rain shower; flip the spout down and the water cascades as a generous waterfall.

Long-recognized for its high-quality Swiss engineering and modern aesthetic, the 2009 GOOD DESIGN Awards honored a selection from Laufen’s unique ILBAGNOALESSI dOt Collection: the washbasin with integrated pedestal in matte black. Designed by Dutch Architect Wiel Arets, the collection’s name is derived from the round, dot-like recess, which adorns nearly every piece in this complete bath series, including washbasins, vanities, tubs, and toilets, all available in black or white. Asymmetric shapes give the collection a light, clean, architectural look, resulting in a revolutionary design for the modern bath.
